If you want to know how a professional athlete is supposed to act, watch the speech by Oakland Athletics outfielder Conor Jackson from Tuesday night when he returned to his alma mater, Woodland Hills El Camino Real, to have his uniform retired.

In the gym, before family, friends and El Camino Reall baseball players, Jackson displayed humor, humbleness and appreciation. He reminded young and old alike about why we love our athletes and how important it has been for him that others have supported him and helped him along the way.

Jackson, a 2000 El Camino Real grad who played in three City Section championship games at Dodger Stadium, made it clear the memories from his high school days won’t be forgotten.
