Santa Monica has done what it set out to do in the first quarter--keep the game close.

The Vikings trail only 10-8 after one quarter of their Southern California Regional quarterfinal game against heavily-favored Mater Dei.

The Vikings are slowing the game down, using the entire shot clock on each possession to try to limit Mater Dei’s offensive opportunities.
