Mission Hills Alemany Coach Randy Thompson decided to take a little gamble and save his ace pitcher, Cody Thompson. Three Alemany pitchers led the Warriors to a 7-4 Division 2 wild-card victory over San Luis Obispo on Wednesday at Ventura College.

It means Cody Thompson will be able to pitch in Thursday’s first-round game against Suburban League champion La Mirada at La Mirada. Peter Van Gansen got the final six outs to earn his 10th save. Edgar Montes had a two-run triple and finished with three RBIs.

Peninsula defeated St. Francis, 7-3, behind Teddy Dilts, who had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs.

In a Division 1 wild-card game, Matt Higginbotham threw a two-hitter and also contributed three hits to help Moorpark defeat Long Beach Millikan, 7-0. Moorpark will play Foothill League champion Valencia on Friday in a first-round game. Anaheim Canyon defeated Marina, 4-1.
