Girls’ basketball: Outreach community basketball tournament starts Tuesday

A five-day girls’ basketball tournament will be held beginning Tuesday at Gardena Serra, Locke and Van Nuys highs to gather clothes and food for the Los Angeles Mission, Sober Living for Women and the Dimondale Adolescent Care Facility for Youth at Risk.

The Sparks and One United Bank are sponsoring the event.

In opening pool-play games of the Gold Division on Tuesday at Serra, Lynwood will play Crenshaw at 6 p.m. followed by Palisades versus Washington at 7, Narbonne versus Monroe at 8 and Serra versus Westchester at 9.

In opening games of the Silver Division at Locke, Southeast will play Lynwood 2 at 6 p.m., followed by Venice versus Huntington Park at 7, Locke vs. F. Hoops at 8 and Hawthorne versus Lynwood 2 at 9.

In opening games of the Silver Division Valley at Van Nuys, Grant will play Van Nuys at 6 p.m., followed by Birmingham versus Panorama at 7, Sylmar versus L.A. Poly at 8 and North Hollywood versus The Vikings at 9.

Pool play at each venue runs through Thursday, with championship and consolation games Friday and Saturday. For more information on the tournament or making donations, call 310-404-1562.
