Baseball: Vote set for Thursday on new playoff proposal

The Southern Section Council is scheduled to vote on Thursday on a proposal to put in a two-year pilot program that would create a double-elimination baseball playoff tournament for Divisions 1 through 4 effective in 2013.

Baseball coaches have supported the idea for years. Colleges already have best-of-three series.

Some games would have to be played on Saturdays, and there would be doubleheaders.

A double-elimination tournament ‘allows the best team to win,’ according to Simi Valley Coach Matt La Belle, who is one of the sponsors of the proposal.
