St. John Bosco converted a pair of fourth downs on the way to taking a 7-0 lead over Mater Dei on DaVonte Young’s five-yard touchdown run with 4 minutes 2 seconds left in the first quarter.

On fourth and one, Young ran for four yards. Later, on fourth and 10, quarterback Rene Medina connected with receiver Bryce Treggs for a 25-yard gain.

Mater Dei had tried to convert a fourth down on its first drive but failed when Ryan McMahon’s pass fell incomplete.

By the way, it’s not a good night for St. John Bosco to be playing the UCLA fight song given what happened to the Bruins on Thursday in Tucson.
