Huntington Beach (8-2) put together a productive drive on its first possession of the night, before a false start penalty stalled them inside the red zone.

But that didn’t stop Thomas Harer from kicking a 37-yard field goal to give the Oilers a 3-0 lead with 7:37 left in the first quarter of their Pac-5 playoff game against Loyola (8-2).

Huntington Beach’s drive could have stalled out at midfield had it not been for a gutsy decision on fourth down. Quarterback Michael Chislock connected on a 20-yard pass to Kai Ross on fourth and 10 to set up the field goal minutes later.

The Oilers’ no-huddle, spread offense looks like it could make life difficult for Loyola. It’ll be interesting to see how the Cubs respond on their first possession.
