Football: Southern Section preseason rankings are out

The Southern Section has released its preseason football polls, and Santa Margarita is ranked No. 1 in the Pac-5 Division.

Oaks Christian is No. 2, Westlake No. 3, Tesoro No. 4, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame No. 5, Alemany No. 6, San Clemente No. 7, Mission Viejo No. 8, Mater Dei No. 9, St. Bonaventure No. 10.

Let me predict there will be some changes coming after the first game. Apparently some people haven’t seen Alemany or Servite this summer or fall.

Western Division: 1. Serra, 2. Lompoc, 3. Chaminade, 4. Culver City, 5. St. Francis, 6. Harvard-Westlake, 7. Lompoc Cabrillo, 8. Templeton, 9. Santa Monica, 10. Ventura.

Note: Campbell Hall was originally ranked No. 9 in Mid-Valley but isn’t playing varsity football. San Marino has replaced Campbell Hall in the top 10 rankings, according to spokesman Thom Simmons.
