More than 7,000 victims of last month’s gas leak at the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, India, blocked the city’s traffic for six hours to protest delays in welfare payments. The demonstrators marched from the factory where the leak occurred into the center of the city, and one protester said, “I prefer to die by sitting here rather than die at home without help.” The leak killed more than 2,000 people and injured 25,000 others.
