Breland to Fight Palmer Tonight
Olympic boxing gold medalist Mark Breland makes his second professional start on ABC-TV tonight against Marlon Palmer at Atlantic City, and veteran trainer Joe Fariello will be in Breland’s corner for the first time.
Fariello has worked with Jose Torres, Floyd Patterson, Buster Mathis and Bennie Briscoe and is credited with inventing boxing’s peek-a-boo defensive style that Patterson popularized.
Breland said Fariello has made an impact in the month or so they have been together.
“He pushes me, makes me work harder. That’s better for me. He stays on my back. I might want to stop sparring, but with Joe there I’ll go the extra round. ‘He gives you reasons for everything you do in the ring, every punch you throw.”
