Athletes to Be Cited by NCAA

Oscar Robertson, the former NBA and University of Cincinnati star, is one of five athletes chosen to receive NCAA awards Jan. 14.

Officials of the NCAA are to present the Silver Anniversary awards to the athletes at the NCAA convention at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., on Jan. 14. The awards are given annually to college athletes who graduated 25 years ago, and are based on the athletes’ community contributions as well as undergraduate achievements.

The others receiving the awards are to include Ralph Boston, a Tennessee State University track star; Bill Carpenter, a wide receiver at Army; Paul Choquette, a Brown University football and track star, and Abner Haynes, a North Texas State running back.

Robertson was the NCAA scoring champion all three of his seasons at the University of Cincinnati, 1957-1960, and his career 2,973 points stood as a record for a decade. He also led Cincinnati rebounders every season, with an average of 15.2 per game.
