Share

California Highway Patrol officers Sunday were looking for a hit-and-run driver who triggered a series of collisions on the Golden State Freeway in Pacoima and the driver of another vehicle, who fled the scene on foot.

Five vehicles were involved in the accident at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday between Van Nuys Boulevard and the Simi Valley Freeway interchange, CHP officer Michael Morrissey said. The first driver being sought was traveling at a high rate of speed when he slammed into the rear of another car, Morrissey said.

While the driver continued northbound on the freeway, Morrissey said, the vehicle he hit was struck by a truck and then two other cars. One of those cars overturned, trapping three people inside, he said. They were taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, two with serious injuries, Morrissey said.

The driver of the last car in the accident left the area on foot, Morrissey said, adding that beer was found spilled inside his vehicle.
