A man who allegedly bludgeoned another man to death with a lead pipe during an argument was fatally shot by a police officer near downtown while trying to flee, police said. Javier Corona, 22, was shot once in the back in the 1100 block of West 1st Street by Officer Thomas Walker, who fired two rounds at the fleeing murder suspect, Lt. Charles Higbie said. Corona allegedly used an 8-foot-long lead pipe to bludgeon a 58-year-old man to death in an argument in the 100 block of N. Boylston Street. “The approaching officers observed Corona holding the lead pipe and ordered him to drop it,” Higbie said. “Ultimately he complied, then turned around and fled on foot. Believing the murder suspect was going to make good with his escape, (Walker) fired two rounds from his service revolver,” Higbie said.
