An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death of a 64-year-old Stanton man who fell ill while driving on the Santa Ana Freeway Wednesday and crashed into a divider at the Norwalk Boulevard off-ramp, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Franklin W. Farwell was pronounced dead on arrival at Norwalk Community Hospital, according to CHP Officer Robert Pike. His wife, Bette K. Farwell, 62, suffered moderate injuries.

Farwell was driving south in the slow lane of the Santa Ana Freeway at about 30 miles per hour when he told his wife that he felt sick or nauseous, then veered to the right, hit the off-ramp divider, bounced off, hit the curb and went over the side of the roadway.

Farwell reportedly had a history of heart trouble, Pike said.
