An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was robbed and pistol-whipped at his Playa del Rey home by two men impersonating police officers. One suspect, Gregory Yager, 31, was arrested, police said. The other escaped. Wilshire Division Officer Proto Lopez and several friends were working in the garage of his Winsford Avenue home when two men forced their way in and yelled, “Police officers! Freeze!” investigators said. After forcing everyone to the ground, Yager allegedly struck Lopez on the head with his gun and took about $200. Lopez and the others were then ordered into the house, where they were forced to lie on the kitchen floor, officers said. When Yager was momentarily distracted as Lopez’s wife was brought to the kitchen, Lopez lunged at him and wrestled the gun away. Yager, who suffered a head wound in the struggle, was booked on suspicion of robbery.
