Share

Police are still searching for a man who raped a woman in an Irvine gas station Wednesday and drove away in her 1969 red Cadillac convertible.

“I’m surprised I didn’t get a call last night--this is a red Cadillac convertible,” said Lt. Al Muir on Thursday. The license number is WUK916.

The man confronted the woman, described only as being in her 40s, in the bathroom of a gas station at Sand Canyon Avenue and the Santa Ana Freeway. She told investigators he had a pistol and that he ripped off lengths of her scarf to gag her and tie her ankles.

Muir said the woman’s arms were bound with a different material and she was able to free herself swiftly. He said the type of material used wouldn’t be revealed because “the only person who would know that would be our suspect.”

The rapist, described as about 28 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds, also took $14 and several credit cards. Witnesses at the station reported seeing him drive away in the car and head north on the freeway.
