Nancy Reynolds; Tobacco Heir

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. —
Nancy Susan Reynolds, last surviving child of the founder of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., died Friday at her home in Greenwich, Conn, the company announced here. She was 74.
Miss Reynolds, who dropped her married name of Bagley in 1970 after a divorce, was a benefactor for many North Carolina institutions, particularly Wake Forest University.
She was born in Winston-Salem on Feb. 5, 1910, to Richard J. Reynolds, founder of the tobacco company now known as R. J. Reynolds Industries Inc., and Katharine Smith Reynolds. They had four children. Her father died when she was 8.
In 1938, when she became 28, she came into control of her estimated $30-million share of the Reynolds’ fortune.
She is survived by four children.
