Council Delays Naming of Port Commissioner

San Diego City Council members again delayed action Monday on appointing a successor to Maureen O’Connor as their representative on the San Diego Unified Port District.
In their first unanimous vote on the vacancy, council members rescinded their action of a week ago, tabling the appointment. They then voted unanimously to delay further discussion of the appointment until Jan. 28.
Councilman Ed Struiksma, who made the motion to continue the issue for two weeks, said that he has no solution to the stalemate that has divided eight council members equally between two candidates, W. Daniel Larsen and Ralph Pesqueira. The ninth, Councilman William Jones, has refused to vote for either man.
