A joint software venture was planned by 13 firms.

Thirteen U.S. aerospace firms, primarily located on the West Coast, notified the Justice Department's antitrust division that they are exploring the possibility of setting up a joint research and development effort under the name Software Productivity Consortium. Included in the group are Lockheed Corp., Northrop Corp., TRW Corp., Ford Aerospace & Communications Corp., Rockwell International Corp., Science Applications International Corp., McDonnell Douglas Corp. and General Dynamics Corp.
