A 23-year-old man was killed and two others injured during a street fight Wednesday when they were hit by a passing car on Chandler Street, about a mile north of Norco in an unincorporated area of Riverside County.

John L. Sousa of Norco was fighting with two other men in the street, just west of Archibald Avenue, when a car struck the trio, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Sousa died at the scene, the county coroner’s office said Thursday.

The other two men, Armando Pardo, 22, of Mira Loma and Tony Reis, 20, of Chino were taken to Riverside General Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition Thursday.

Pardo suffered two broken legs and Reis one broken leg in the accident, a hospital spokeswoman said.

“We never could find out” what the men were fighting about, said Highway Patrol Officer Dick Heatley. No charges were filed against the car’s driver, he said, because the three men fighting in the street were at fault in the accident.
