Parade Saturday Honors Dr. King

The fifth annual San Diego Kingdom Day Parade, commemorating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the slain civil rights leader, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday. It will have 200 entries from around the city.
According to Norminel Reese, vice president of the National Cultural Foundation, which sponsors the event, the parade will assemble at 150 S. 49th St. near the Lincoln High School athletic field. It will travel north to Imperial Avenue, east on Imperial to Euclid Avenue, south on Euclid, west on Logan Avenue and back to its starting point.
Some of the groups participating in this year’s parade include the San Diego Pop Warner Football Assn., VFW Post 5179, the Lincoln High School Marching Band, the Morse High School Marching Band, the National Urban League, the NAACP, Neighborhood House and the Rhea Rogers Performing Arts Group.
