Bakersfield Baseball Official Looking for Class AAA Team for Sacramento

SACRAMENTO — Pat Ryan, general manager of the Class A California League’s Bakersfield Dodgers, has approached Sacramento leaders about the prospects of bringing a Class AAA baseball team to the capital.
Ryan said he is doing “legwork” for Southern California investors who are interested in purchasing a Class AAA team.
“Our interest is to come in there, bring professional baseball to Sacramento, and build a facility,” he said. “We want to find out if the city is really committed to bringing in a professional baseball team. They’re going to get back to us in two weeks.”
Ryan has met with Mayor Anne Rudin, city Community Services Director Robert Thomas and officials of Cosumnes River College, the community college where Ryan proposes construction of a stadium by 1987.
Ryan said he is not representing the Dodgers’ organization and the investors have no plans as yet to buy a specific club.
He also said no plans have been drawn up for a stadium at the south Sacramento community college, but he noted that city and college officials agreed in 1984 to develop a potential stadium area on the northwest corner of the campus.
