Yorba Linda : Ordinance Would Change Pool Fence Requirement

Share

A proposed ordinance that would make it easier for pool owners to meet requirements for fences around their property will be considered for final adoption by the City Council tonight.

Current codes require the fences to be at least five feet tall. If the fence is made of two materials, such as masonry topped by wrought iron, the upper portion must be at least 4 feet, 8 inches high, said Bill Paxton, community development director.

The proposed change would still require a minimum height of five feet, but the top portion of a two-material fence would only have to be three feet high, Paxton said.

Pool contractors and some pool owners have complained that the requirements are tougher than those in other cities, he said. The proposed ordinance would eliminate the need for many homeowners to build new fences if they want to install pools, Paxton said.

If approved, the ordinance would go into effect in 30 days.
