Pine Valley
Two people were killed Monday when a light plane crashed and exploded in a rugged area near Pine Valley, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported. Witnesses saw the Cessna 185 Skywagon go down in the brushland south of Interstate 8 about 6:45 p.m. Federal investigators were summoned to the crash scene in an effort to determine the cause. The pilot reportedly was returning to Gillespie Field in El Cajon when the single-engine aircraft crashed, deputies said. Identification of the victims was withheld pending notification of relatives.
