France Expels Polish Envoy
France declared a Polish Embassy military attache persona non grata and asked him to leave the country, the Foreign Ministry said today. Government sources said the attache had tried to obtain information on the activities of exiled members of the banned Polish trade union Solidarity.
The attache, Stanislas Janczaka, 33, departed 24 hours after being asked to leave, said the sources, who spoke only on condition they not be identified. A spokesman at the Polish Embassy called the report a “provocation,” and added: “All my colleagues are here.”
