The city will submit a proposal to the county to take over operation of the eight-acre Alondra Regional Park just east of the city on Redondo Beach Boulevard between the county golf course and El Camino College.

The county wants to lease the park for three years to an outside operator who would have complete responsibility for operation, maintenance and repair of facilities. The golf course would not be included in the lease.

Lloyd R. Long, city leisure and social services director, said adding Alondra to the city’s park system would provide additional meeting space, a gymnasium, facilities for an aquatics program, additional ball diamonds, a fishing lake and a picnic area.

Long said the costs of operating the park have not been determined but that under the lease, maintenance costs would be covered by the county, which in turn would receive a portion of park revenue. The county also plans to lease regional parks in Arcadia, La Mirada and Sylmar to outside operators in the hope of reducing operation costs, Long said.
