Parking has been banned for the entire length of 183rd Street from the Artesia border to the Santa Ana Freeway on Cerritos’ east side.

Parking already was illegal along some stretches of the major east-west thoroughfare, but the City Council agreed there was too much traffic to allow stopping on the street at any time.

The council agreed unanimously to extend the parking ban to include a stretch of 183rd on the south side of the proposed Towne Center project site between Bloomfield Avenue and Shoemaker Road. Parking on 183rd between Casandra Avenue and the city line also will be banned.

The city already is widening the stretch of 183rd that runs past the planned Towne Center project, just east of City Hall. Eventually officials hope to develop a $222-million shopping, office and cultural complex on the 125-acre site. “It just wouldn’t be feasible to allow any parking on 183rd in that area,” said city spokesman Tom Robinson.

The “No Parking Any Time” signs should be in place next week.
