Dart & Kraft Inc. said strong earnings...

Dart & Kraft Inc. said strong earnings from its food products operations boosted its full-year profits 4.7% over the previous year. The Chicago-based firm added that lower operating expenses, stemming partially from reduced raw material costs, also boosted earnings.

Kaufman & Broad Inc., a Los Angeles-based home builder and insurance firm, said its earnings rose by 72.1% in the fourth quarter and 62% for the year. The firm posted a 12% rise in income from its site-built housing operations and 19% in life insurance for the year, while suffering modest losses in its factory-built housing and mortgage-banking divisions.

NI Industries reported record operating results for the year ended last Dec. 31. The Long Beach-based company said net income for the year rose 52% over 1983.

Oakland-based Clorox Co. reported that net income for its fiscal second quarter ended last Dec. 31 rose 4% over the same period a year ago. Revenue for the three months was up 13% from a year earlier. Clorox noted that total shipments were ahead of a year ago.

Amdahl Corp. reported that net income for the year ended last Dec. 28 declined 15% while fourth-quarter profits were slightly higher. A spokesman for the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said that the strong financial performance in the fourth quarter was achieved despite the adverse affects of the strong U.S. dollar relative to foreign currencies.

Delta Air Lines Inc. said its fiscal second-quarter profit jumped 82% from a year earlier, while revenue rose 6%. The Atlanta-based airline said net income in the quarter ended last Dec. 31 climbed to $73.9 million from $40.7 million a year earlier. The latest quarterly earnings included a $29.6-million after-tax gain from the sale of aircraft. The year-earlier profit included such a gain totaling $10 million.
