The Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday recommended confirmation of the Treasury Department’s deputy secretary and assistant secretary for tax policy.

Richard G. Darman, who has been deputy chief of staff at the White House for four years, was recommended without dissent to become the No. 2 official in the Treasury Department. Ronald A. Pearlman, who has been in the Treasury for 1 1/2 years, was cleared unanimously to be assistant secretary in charge of tax policy.

The nominations now go to the Senate for final approval.
