Attorneys for Los Angeles County have decided to seek reconsideration of a state appeal court decision ordering the Sheriff’s Department to hire a black man as a Harbor Patrol officer. Deputy County Counsel Joe Ben Hudgens said the reconsideration move involves some language in the court’s ruling that ordered the department to end James Craig’s 17-year struggle to join the department and allow him to bypass academy training and probation. “The court said that the Sheriff’s (Department) action was obstructionist and outrageous,” Hudgens said, adding that the action requiring Craig to attend the academy was “what they normally would do for someone new.”
