Development reached an all-time high in 1984 with building permits valued at more than $62 million granted, up 60% from $39 million in 1983, said George Beaty, assistant planning director.
In 1984, the city issued permits for several large developments, including an $8-million warehouse distribution facility for McMaster-Carr Supply Co., a $5.3-million mall, a $3.8-million Target store at the mall and several large industrial buildings exceeding $2 million in valuations, Beaty said. A permit also was issued for a $2.1-million condominium development on Meyer Road, he said.
Developers are attracted to Santa Fe Springs because land is available there and the city is near freeways and midway between Los Angeles and Orange counties, Beaty said. He added that the city “has a history of working well with industrial developers.”
