Wising Up closed with a rush in the final furlong Wednesday and won the $88,600 Santa Ynez Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, Wising Up finished three-quarters of a length in front of Rascal Lass, ridden by Ray Sibille. Reigning Countess finished third under Sandy Hawley another two lengths back.

The favorite, Pleasure Lover, finished fourth, another three-quarters of a length back.

Covering seven furlongs in 1:23 2/5, Wising Up defeated eight rivals and earned $52,600. Trained by Wayne Lukas, Wising Up has now won two stakes in a row.

Sent off the second choice, Wising Up paid $5.80, $3.60 and $2.60. Rascal Lass returned $6.40 and $3.80, and Reigning Countess returned $4 to show.

Carrying 119 pounds, Wising Up lacked early speed and was still five lengths behind the leaders entering the stretch. The brown filly closed strongly in the final eighth, however, and overtook Rascal Lass in the closing yards.

Rascal Lass battled for the lead from the start. After racing with Reigning Countess and Lady’s Secret, Rascal Lass gained the advantage at the top of the stretch but was unable to hold off the winner.
