Pier Group to Get Grant to Buy Tent for Special Events
The California Coastal Commission will give a $27,000 grant to the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corp. for the purchase of a special-events tent that will include seating and interior lighting. The 60-by-80-foot tent will be set up near the western end of the pier and will be used for events including concerts and circuses. Pier corporation director Gail Markens said she expects the tent to be ready by April. “We want to reestablish the pier as a legitimate entertainment area,” Markens said.
