A 31-year-old man was shot in the head and his woman companion was beaten early Sunday, allegedly during an argument with the woman’s estranged husband, Santa Ana police said.

Responding to reports of a shooting shortly after midnight, police found Terrance Cantrell critically wounded in his apartment in the 3900 block of South Flower Street, according to Santa Ana Police Lt. Bob Jordan. Police also found Peggy Kenyon, 34, of Costa Mesa, who had been beaten about the head, apparently with the same handgun used to shoot Cantrell, Jordan said.

A short time later, police arrested John Kenyon, 37, of Santa Ana. He was booked at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, Jordan said.
