Police Kill Purse Snatch Suspect

An Inglewood man suspected of committing 75 purse snatchings and robberies at shopping centers over the past year was shot to death by undercover police officers outside a Gemco Department Store near Culver City, police said today.

Steven M. Lincourt, 25, was killed Tuesday evening after he tried to flee in a stolen car from the store's parking lot at 5750 Mesmer Ave., said Los Angeles Police Lt. Charles Higbie. The officers recognized Lincourt from a composite photo and tried to arrest him, Higbie said, but the suspect attempted to speed away. Two Los Angeles police officers and a Los Angeles County deputy sheriff fired 11 rounds--one from a shotgun and 10 from service revolvers--at the suspect, who died inside the car, Higbie said.
