An Inglewood man suspected of committing 75 purse snatchings and robberies at shopping centers over the past year was shot to death by undercover police officers outside a Gemco Department Store near Culver City, police said today.

Steven M. Lincourt, 25, was killed Tuesday evening after he tried to flee in a stolen car from the store’s parking lot at 5750 Mesmer Ave., said Los Angeles Police Lt. Charles Higbie. The officers recognized Lincourt from a composite photo and tried to arrest him, Higbie said, but the suspect attempted to speed away. Two Los Angeles police officers and a Los Angeles County deputy sheriff fired 11 rounds--one from a shotgun and 10 from service revolvers--at the suspect, who died inside the car, Higbie said.
