Padres’ Lefferts Signs 2-Year Pact
The San Diego Padres announced Wednesday the signing of relief pitcher Craig Lefferts to a two-year contract.
Lefferts was scheduled to go to arbitration Friday. Terms of the contract were unavailable.
The 27-year-old left-hander had a 3-4 record with a 2.13 earned-run average and 10 saves in 62 regular-season games last year. In the National League playoffs, Lefferts appeared in three games, allowing one hit in four innings. He was the winning pitcher in the Padres’ comeback victories in games four and five against the Chicago Cubs.
In the World Series against the Detroit Tigers, Lefferts appeared in three games and allowed two hits in six innings. He earned a save in the Padres’ lone victory, a 5-3 decision in Game 2 at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium.
