A Northwest Orient Airlines flight from Honolulu landed here safely early today after one of its four engines was shut down because of an indication it was overheating, airport officials said.

The 747 jumbo jet with 234 passengers aboard was scheduled to stop in Los Angeles, then continue on to Minneapolis. But the engine malfunction forced the grounding of the plane at Los Angeles International Airport when it landed at 2:25 a.m. Passengers were put on later flights to continue the trip.
