DE SOTO, Mo. —
The 3-year-old son of a deputy sheriff found his father’s revolver and killed his 5-year-old brother with a shot to the face, authorities said Thursday.
“The gun was put up,” said Darlene Wilkinson, the boys’ mother. “They got to it somehow. It was a freak and stupid accident.”
Joshua Wilkinson was shot about 8 a.m. Wednesday by his brother, Matthew, as Joshua watched television at the family’s home. He died before an ambulance arrived. The boys’ parents were asleep at the time of the shooting.
