People : Witt Named 1985 President of Municipal Water District

The 1985 president of the Municipal Water District of Orange County, which wholesales imported water to 80% of the county, is Kenneth H. Witt. Witt recently was reelected to his third term on the board of directors.

After resting from his recent duties as the California Highway Patrol’s commander of Olympic planning, Capt. Ken L. Rude has taken over leadership of the CHP’s Westminster office. Rude, who has spent 18 1/2 years with the highway patrol, most of it in Los Angeles, succeeded Capt. Bud Reeves, who retired. The Westminster CHP patrols the freeways and county roads in west Orange County and Long Beach.

Los Angeles Rams place kicker Mike Lansford, who has been sent into critical situations in close football games, has been called in to chair the Anaheim Family YMCA’s annual campaign to raise $200,000 for youth programs. The drive begins Feb. 20.

John M. Kauffman has been named executive director of the Orange County Council on Aging Inc. The Garden Grove-based group makes referrals for long-term care of elderly people, and acts as advocate for residents of nursing and board-and-care homes.

Patricia Heaphy, of Huntington Beach, director of student affairs at Citrus College, Azusa, is one of 160 women in the community college field chosen to take part in a six-month leadership training program. After a week of training in Phoenix, Ariz., Heaphy will be assigned a research project under her project mentor, Edward M. Tronaas, who is the interim president of Citrus College.
