Woman Badly Burned in Mobile Home Fire
A 71-year-old Santa Ana woman was severely burned Friday morning in a fire apparently started by a cigarette she had been smoking in bed.
Helen Burd, who lives in a West First Street mobile home park, was in critical condition at the UCI Medical Center burn ward with third-degree burns over 15% of her body, including her head, chest and arms.
Fire officials said Burd told them she had been smoking in bed when the fire started about 9:45 a.m.
Her mobile home was not damaged, authorities said.
