Arson investigators were checking the ruins of a two-story Hollywood building Friday after a fire that caused an estimated $3.5-million damage, most of it to imported furniture, according to spokesmen for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

They also were investigating another suspicious fire that destroyed a vacant Westwood apartment building early Friday morning. There was no damage estimate in that fire, because the building was being demolished.

Twenty fire companies battled the Hollywood blaze, which burned out a 70-by-100-foot building housing Tradition Import Co., El Taurino Bar, Man Space Bath and the Diamond Pawn Shop in the 5500 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. The fire broke out at 8 p.m. Thursday and was put out two hours later.
