“INVADERS” TO MAKE RE-ENTRY--Cameras will roll in April in and around Los Angeles for the remake of the 1953 science-fiction classic “Invaders From Mars.” Tobe Hooper (“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”) will produce and direct for Cannon Films. Dan O’Bannon’s (“Alien”) screenplay is said to be very close to the original (in which a youngster awakens one night and watches a Martian spacecraft land). Karen Black and her real-life son Hunter Carson (“Paris, Texas”) will head the cast.

Peter Combs, who will serve as production supervisor on the remake, promises state-of-the-art special effects. “But, the emphasis will be on the human story. Because this is the ultimate child’s nightmare,” he said, referring to the fact that, in the course of the story, the boy’s parents, schoolteacher, policemen-friend and other authority figures are “taken-over” by the Martians.
