Detroit Opens American League Season Against Cleveland April 8

The World Series champion Detroit Tigers start the 1985 American League season April 8 at home against Cleveland in one of four opening-day games, league President Dr. Bobby Brown announced.

Also on April 8, the American League West champion Kansas City Royals play host to Toronto, Texas is at Baltimore and New York plays in Boston.

Three games are scheduled for April 9--Chicago at Milwaukee, Oakland at Seattle in a night game, and Minnesota vs the Angels at Anaheim at night.

The next set of home openers starts Friday, April 12, when the Angels play at Oakland and Milwaukee is in Texas. New York plays at Cleveland on April 13, California is at Minnesota on April 15, Chicago is at New York and Texas plays at Toronto April 16, and the final home opener will be played April 19 when Boston is at Chicago.

Six double-headers are scheduled in the American League this season. Two are set in Oakland, two in Cleveland--including the only scheduled twi-nighter--and one each in Detroit and Toronto.

Minnesota will be host to the All-Star Game July 16 and Boston will face Houston in the annual Hall of Fame Game in Cooperstown, N.Y., on July 29.
