Digest : Local News in Brief : 3 Valley Schools Get $4 Million to Expand

Share

Three East San Fernando Valley schools were given $4 million by the Los Angeles Unified School District on Tuesday as part of a program to expand facilities at overcrowded schools.

The schools--Camellia Avenue Elementary and Victory Boulevard Elementary, both in North Hollywood, and Haddon Avenue Elementary in Pacoima--were among 13 Los Angeles public schools to receive money for expansion. A total of $18 million will be spent for additional classrooms and enlargement of playgrounds at schools where overcrowded conditions now exist.

About $7.8 million of the expansion money came from savings the school district realized when it closed 22 schools. Nineteen of the closed schools are in the West Valley.
