A 4-year-old boy standing on a South Los Angeles sidewalk was fatally wounded in the head when a young man fired a gun from across the street, police said. “They’re treating it as a homicide, not as an accident,” Newton Division Police Officer Kirk Marten, said, adding that no one had been arrested. Demont Beans died while undergoing treatment at Martin Luther King Jr. Medical Center about three hours after the shooting.
