The charred remains of a Burbank home destroyed in a fire last week will be opened to the public for viewing today as the Burbank Fire Department launches a program to promote home fire safety.

Inspector Steve Pennington, Burbank public education officer, said fire officials will conduct tours of the home at 613 E. Tufts Ave. between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The accidental fire, which destroyed the home and its contents Feb. 7, apparently started near the fireplace, he said.

Family members, none of whom was injured in the blaze, also will be available at the home to discuss fire safety measures, Pennington said.

“This is meant to provide the emotional impact to people needed to teach them about fire safety,” he said. “The significance is that this could happen to you.”
