Irvine : Irvine High Teachers Take to the Stage

Share

For a while Friday, seven Irvine High School teachers stepped out of their classrooms and onto a bandstand to became rock stars.

It was the annual fund-raising performance by the teachers, known collectively as the De-generation Gap. For the past eight year they’ve gotten together to play some Top 40 hits to raise money for the school’s music department.

In the past, the group has raised enough money to buy such things as microphones, music stand lights and a public address system, said Diana Sargenti, a school spokeswoman. The one-night performance costs $3 per ticket and typically brings in $1,000, she said.

Although two members of the group, Bob Pestolesi and Paul Jacob, play in a regular band, the others only perform for the annual show, Sargenti said.

Along with Pestolesi, an auto shop teacher, and Jacob, a math instructor, the other members of the group are:

John McKeever (math), Kent Bentley (math), Ellen Kesler (math), Sue McDuffie (social science) and Andrea Kustin (Spanish).
