Preschool Named in Abuse Probe May Be Reopened

A Hermosa Beach preschool closed by the state Department of Social Services last month amid allegations of child molestation will be allowed to reopen, a licensing official said Friday.

John Hagerty, deputy director for the agency’s community care licensing division, flew to Los Angeles late Friday to meet with parents of children who attended the Children’s Path preschool and investigators in an effort to get more information about the allegations.

He said his office lifted a temporary suspension order of the nursery school’s license Monday “because we felt there was not sufficient information” to close the school.

Children’s Path was closed voluntarily last fall, at police request, after several parents complained and child abuse experts found physical evidence that molestation had occurred.
