The Cal State Long Beach women’s basketball team takes its 11-game winning streak into the Sports Arena today to meet USC in a Western Collegiate Athletic Assn. game at 2:30 p.m.

The second-ranked 49ers, 8-0 in conference and 19-1 overall, got their only loss of the season Jan. 7 against then top-ranked Old Dominion. They are led by sophomore center Cindy Brown, who is averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds a game, and senior forward Kirsten Cummings, who averages 15 points and nine rebounds.

Cummings sprained her ankle in the second half of Long Beach’s win over UCLA Wednesday night, but she will start today.

The Trojans (14-6, 4-2), coming off Thursday’s 54-51 victory over Cal State Fullerton, need a win to remain in second place in the WCAA. Forward Cheryl Miller leads the team in scoring (26 points) and rebounding (16), while Yolanda Fletcher, who scored the go-ahead basket with 17 seconds left in the Fullerton game, averages 12 points a game.

The teams split last season’s series, but defending national-champion USC defeated Long Beach, 90-74, in the West Regional Finals to advance to the NCAA Final Four.
