Waves Get Past Portland, 80-60, as White Scores a Career-High 28

Eric White scored a career-high 28 points and had a game-high 12 rebounds Saturday night to lead Pepperdine to an 80-60 win over Portland in a West Coast Athletic Conference basketball game at Portland, Ore.

The conference-leading Waves boosted their record to 19-8 overall and 7-1 in the WCAC. Portland fell to 12-11 and 1-6. It was the 13th win in the last 15 games for the Waves and maintained their one-game lead over Santa Clara. The two teams meet next Saturday at Malibu.

White, 6-8 sophomore forward, hit 11 of 16 shots from the floor and all six from the line. Jon Korfas added 14 points for the Waves, followed by Dwayne Polee with 12 and Levy Middlebrooks with 11.

Portland broke out to a 10-2 lead and was leading 28-27 at the half, but Pepperdine put together a 20-6 run starting the second half to take command. With eight minutes to play, the Waves were ahead, 57-40.

The Waves have four games left in the conference, all at home. Their next game is against St. Mary’s Thursday night.
